Pandemic Shopping List and Immune-System Boosting Recipe
Real chaos potential waiting in the wings now, though if you keep cool you ought to be alright.
So far, I'm not convinced that this Swine Flu is the big one, at this point it seems more like a great opportunity
for disaster capitalists like Donald Rumsfeld of Tamiflu to cash in on the panic. Things are tense, and I expect that
people are going to be freaking out. Ignore and avoid them. Let's not over-react kids, don't be one of those panicked
idiots, now is the time for calm smarts. So far, my personal TSHTF meter is only at about 3 out of 10, but I'm watching
for a handful of specific events in order to signal that we have a real problem here.
Watch For Any of the Following!
Widespread Mandatory Quarantine (at the city or county level or greater)
Grounding of International Flights
Closure of International Borders
WHO announcement of Pandemic Threat Level 5 or greater
Cancellation of major sporting events, concerts etc in the Continental USA
If any of the above occur, its time to immediately go shopping if you haven't already. If trade is shut down, the
shelves at the store will empty quickly, and you may need to go a few weeks without shopping. Here is
your essentials shopping list, in no particular order. Remember to keep calm.

It also wouldn't hurt to have some booze on hand, cans of beer and mickeys of hard stuff, for bartering or self medication :)
You should also have a bunch of cash on hand, in small bills. If you have kids, its time to teach them how to wash their
hands properly and sneeze into their elbows if the needs arises. You're also going to want to get some extra batteries and
a crank-powered radio and flashlight.
Looking forward, a word on adaptation if the worst-case scenario comes. If people start dying in your town, you're going to
want to start taking cold fx and astralagus. A little off the charts here, but if you know someone who is deathly ill, the
mad monk recommends taking Boneset, but good luck finding it.
In the meantime, a recipe for you...many ounces of prevention to super-charge your immune system.
Chana Masala - feeds 4-6
2 cans chick peas - 19oz
1 can diced tomatoes - 28 oz
1 piece of ginger, about the size of your thumb - chopped
1 medium onion - minced
7 cloves garlic - chopped
1/2 cup cilantro - chopped
3 tbsp cooking oil
3 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
cayenne pepper - to taste...the more the better if you like spicy foods
If you don't have all of the spices you can still make this dish...just do the best you can.
If you don't like chick peas you can use lentils. The sauce also goes well with potatoes
(boil and chop them first) or cauliflower.
Heat oil in a pot at medium heat. Add cumin and fenugreek seeds, when they're crackling add the onion and ginger.
Stir-fry until the onions are translucent. Add garlic and stir-fry for one minute. Drain excess fluid from the
can of tomatoes. Add tomatoes, turmeric, cayenne, cloves, cinnamon, pepper, sugar, salt, and lemon juice. Stir and cover.
Stir occasionally, until the tomatoes have mostly liquifed, about ten minutes. Drain and rinse chick peas, add them and stir.
Put on low heat. Stir occasionally until chick peas have softened. Add cilantro. Stir and serve with rice or bread.
Eat this to power up your immune system. Wash your hands. Prevent illness and you won't have to treat it.
The next 48 hours or so are worth paying attention to. Let's keep an eye on this, but not panic.
This is a Bill Moyers interview of William K. Black, a former regulator of Wall Street.
With insider knowledge, he details how corrupt and fraudulent the banks are, and why many
of their executives belong in prison.
...look at the Weimar government. Suffering from the trauma of defeat in the First World War and the burden
of reparations, it was too weak to raise taxes. It ran large budget deficits instead. Interest rates were kept
far below the rate of inflation, while money supply expanded rapidly. About half of government expenditure was
funded by newly printed money.
America is devolving into a third-world nation. And if we do not immediately halt our elite?s rapacious
looting of the public treasury we will be left with trillions in debts, which can never be repaid, and
widespread human misery which we will be helpless to ameliorate. Our anemic democracy will be replaced with
a robust national police state. The elite will withdraw into heavily guarded gated communities where they will
have access to security, goods and services that cannot be afforded by the rest of us. Tens of millions of people,
brutally controlled, will live in perpetual poverty. This is the inevitable result of unchecked corporate
capitalism. The stimulus and bailout plans are not about saving us. They are about saving them. We can resist,
which means street protests, disruptions of the system and demonstrations, or become serfs.
China yesterday unveiled a comprehensive blueprint for health care reform, kicking off a long-anticipated
plan to fix the ailing medical system and ensure safe and affordable health services for the country's
1.3 billion citizens..."This is the first time that basic medical services in China are clearly defined as
a public service for all citizens, which is part of the essential rights of the people," said Professor Li Ling
of Peking University.
